Dubai (May 11, 2024): An era is coming to a close at Dubai Duty Free, the world’s largest duty-free operation, as its long-standing leader, Colm McLoughlin, announced his retirement today. McLoughlin, who served as Executive Vice Chairman and CEO for an impressive 41 years, will officially step down on May 31st, 2024.
McLoughlin’s tenure at Dubai Duty Free has been synonymous with the organization’s phenomenal success. He joined the company in 1983 and played a pivotal role in transforming it from a small operation into a global retail giant. Under his leadership, Dubai Duty Free expanded its reach, diversified its offerings, and became a major contributor to Dubai’s booming tourism industry.
“It has been an incredible journey,” said McLoughlin in a statement. “I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together at Dubai Duty Free. I am grateful for the unwavering support of the Dubai government, our dedicated staff, and our loyal customers.”
McLoughlin’s retirement marks a significant moment for Dubai Duty Free. He leaves behind a legacy of innovation, customer focus, and commitment to excellence. Ramesh Cidambi will take over the reins as Managing Director, with Salah Tahlak appointed Deputy Managing Director.
McLoughlin will not be entirely severing ties with Dubai Duty Free. He will assume an advisory role, ensuring a smooth transition and offering his expertise to the new leadership team. He also plans to remain actively involved in the Dubai community.
Dubai Duty Free’s future remains bright. With a strong foundation built by Colm McLoughlin and a capable new leadership team in place, the organization is well-positioned to continue its success story in the years to come.
